Yet
another
teenage
suicide
has
been
recorded.
The
latest
victim
was
a
15-year-old
fourth
form
student
of
the
Tutorial
High
School.
Dead
is
Amrita
Mangal
of
28
Goedverwagting,
East
Coast
Demerara
(ECD).
She
succumbed
at
the
Georgetown
Public
Hospital
Corporation
(GPHC)
on
Saturday
morning
at
09:20
am,
less
than
24-hours
after
ingesting
an
unidentified
poisonous
substance.
Amrita
Mangal’s
parents
and
other
relatives
gather
outside
of
their
home
while
getting
set
for
her
wake.
Reports
are
that
on
Friday,
last,
Amrita’s
parents
were
called
into
the
school
to
discuss
an
issue
concerning
their
daughter,
but
unfortunately
due
to
her
mother
being
ill,
Amrita’s
father,
Rohan
Mangal
visited
the
school
to
ascertain
what
problem
had
occurred
at
the
Tutorial
High
School
with
his
daughter’s
involvement.
Kaieteur
News
understands
that
upon
arriving
at
his
daughter’s
school,
Rohan
was
told
by
the
girl’s
form
teacher
that
Amrita
was
absent
for
the
morning
session
and
would
frequently
be
absent
in
the
mornings
from
classes.
The
teacher
said
that
Amrita
would
come
to
school
usually
around
10:00am
(close
to
the
break
period).
Rohan
told
Kaieteur
News
that
he
was
shocked
at
this
revelation
since
he
was
never
notified
about
his
daughter
skipping
classes
or
arriving
late
at
school.
Amrita
was
then
summoned
into
an
office
where
her
father
and
the
headmistress
spent
almost
two
hours
talking
with
her
about
the
issues
at
hand.
The
father
then
took
Amrita
home
and
awakened
his
wife,
Sylvie
Cunje,
to
notify
her
about
their
daughter’s
actions.
Rohan
said,
“I
tell
her
to
put
her
bag
on
the
bench
and
go
change
she
clothes
so
that
I
could
call
her
in
front
of
her
mother
to
talk
about
she
skipping
school
and
such.
“Amrita
went
inside
the
house
through
one
door
and
didn’t
come
out
back”.
This
publication
was
made
to
understand
that
Amrita
appeared
uneasy
about
leaving
her
school
bag
on
the
bench
while
she
was
inside
of
the
house,
however;
by
the
time
her
mother
had
awakened
and
was
ready
to
talk
to
her,
Amrita
was
not
there.
Rohan
explained
that
he
also
summoned
two
of
Amrita’s
sisters
to
witness
the
discussions
since
they
were
all
close
and
if
Amrita
had
a
problem
which
she
felt
she
could
not
discuss
with
her
parents,
she
would
be
able
to
turn
to
her
sisters.
Sylvie
Cunje,
the
girl’s
mother,
stated
that
she
began
to
feel
uneasy
and
felt
“a
pain”
in
her
stomach
when
the
small
gathering
heard
“a
moaning,
groaning
sound”.
She
then
told
her
family
“something
wrong
with
Amrita…I
can’t
move,
something
wrong,
go
find
she.”
One
of
Amrita’s
sisters
ran
through
the
side
door
of
the
house
and
began
looking
for
Amrita
while
her
father
combed
the
yard.
Moments
later
they
saw
the
teenager
“crimped
up
in
pain”
on
the
floor
at
the
back
of
their
yard
next
to
a
pen
where
they
kept
animals.
Rohan
and
one
of
his
daughters
immediately
rushed
Amrita
to
the
GPHC
for
immediate
medical
attention.
By
this
time
she
was
in
a
critical
condition.
Her
distraught
father,
who
is
still
trying
to
come
to
grips
with
the
sudden
loss
of
his
“favourite
daughter”
said,
“We
were
trying
to
hold
Amrita
down
all
the
time
because
like
the
poison
make
she
lurching
and
she
body
was
rocking
up
and
down.”
Sylvie
explained
that
Amrita
was
the
most
fortunate
of
her
children
since
she
was
the
only
one
who
“made
it
to
a
secondary
school
education”.
She
said
that
Amrita’s
father
went
out
of
his
way
to
ensure
that
she
was
well
provided
for
financially
and
materially
to
help
her
through
secondary
school.
Rohan
recently
purchased
a
computer
system
for
Amrita.
He
told
this
newspaper,
“I
does
give
Amrita
money
to
go
to
school,
she
does
get
paid
by
me
to
help
do
work
and
sometimes
she
does
even
ask
the
mother
or
sister
for
money
and
get
it,
so
it
isn’t
like
she
lacking
anything.
I
work
hard
all
my
life
and
work
for
what?
To
make
my
children
better
off.
“All
this
preparation
for
a
wake
and
funeral,
I
wish
it
was
preparation
for
her
wedding
instead.
It
would
have
been
better
off
if
I
had
marry
she
off
than
have
to
cremate
her”.
Some
family
members
and
friends
are
of
the
opinion
that
Amrita
had
a
boyfriend
whom
they
were
unaware
of.
Her
parents
said
that
she
never
came
to
them
and
told
them
that
she
was
involved
in
any
relationship.
Her
siblings
explained
that
if
she
did,
she
was
very
good
at
keeping
it
a
secret
from
them,
since
not
once
did
she
ever
utter
a
word
about
a
boyfriend.
Kaieteur
News
understands
that
the
poisonous
liquid
which
Amrita
drank
was
secured
in
a
‘Thrill
bottle’.
The
family
has
no
idea
what
the
substance
is.
They
are
of
the
impression
that
maybe
she
had
a
boyfriend
with
whom
she
had
encountered
some
problems
and
probably
purchased
or
retrieved
the
substance
between
the
few
hours
of
her
leaving
for
school
that
morning
and
arriving
during
the
break
time
for
classes.
One
of
the
relatives
stated,
“It
looks
like
she
planned
to
do
this
before
she
got
home
here.
She
had
time
to
get
the
substance
in
between
the
few
hours.
She
knew
what
she
wanted
to
do
from
before.
“Imagine
she
didn’t
even
have
a
hard
life
or
problems
at
home.
She
would
have
been
16
years
old
next
month.”
Rohan
said
that
he
was
made
aware
that
Amrita
was
absenting
herself
from
school
for
almost
two
months
straight
and
on
the
day
she
drank
the
poisonous
substance,
she
was
wearing
casual
clothing
underneath
her
school
uniform.
Also,
there
was
a
‘gent’s
sunglasses’
in
her
school
bag,
which
Rohan
stated,
he
never
saw
her
wear.
He
is
appealing
to
parents
to
check
on
their
children’s
performance,
attendance
and
activities
at
schools
since
they
could
also
prevent
their
children
from
suffering
the
same
fate
which
Amrita
did.
