Man
gets
five
years
for
‘feeling’
woman

Eastman,
29,
of
Number
30
Village,
West
Coast
Berbice,
has
become
one
of
the
first
men
to
be
jailed
under
the
New
Sexual
Offences
Act.
He
was
on
Friday
sentenced
to
five
years
in
jail
by
Magistrate
Adela
Nagamootoo
when
he
appeared
before
her
at
the
New
Amsterdam
Magistrate’s
Court
and
pleaded
guilty
to
a
charge
of
Sexual
Assault
committed
on
a
female
of
the
same
village.
The
case
for
the
prosecution
was
that
the
woman
knew
the
accused.
About17:30hrs
on
March
9,
last,
the
woman
was
riding
her
bicycle
along
the
village
public
road
when
Eastman
called
out
to
her.
She
stopped
and
the
accused
proceeded
to
tell
her
“is
a
long
time
I
ain’t
see
you,
you
looking
good.
I
want
to
f…you.”
With
that
he
preceded
to
touch
her
breast,
her
buttocks
and
rub
her
legs.
The
woman
objected,
but
the
accused
continued,
despite
her
protestation.
The
matter
was
reported
and
the
accused
was
arrested
and
charged.
He
appeared
in
the
New
Amsterdam
Magistrate’s
court
on
Thursday
and
pleaded
guilty.
However
he
was
remanded
until
Friday
when
he
was
jailed.
The
new
Sexual
Offences
Act
2010
deals
with
touching
a
person
sexually
against
their
wishes.
