A
twenty-three-year-old
wo-man
was
murdered
over
the
weekend
by
her
reputed
husband
who
later
hung
himself.
Dead
are
Padmanie
Kishunchand
and
Shahabudeen
Rampertab,
35,
who
shared
a
home
at
Good
Hope,
East
Coast
Demerara.
The
woman's
mother,
Patricia
Jodhan,
made
the
gruesome
discovery
of
her
daughter's
battered
body
on
Monday
evening
after
she
was
forced
to
seek
the
assistance
of
the
police
to
gain
entrance
to
the
couple's
home.
The
man
allegedly
battered
the
young
woman
to
death
with
a
baseball
bat
on
Christmas
night
after
they
returned
from
a
visit
to
her
mother's
home
at
Strathspey,
East
Coast
Demerara.
According
to
reports,
after
murdering
the
woman
the
man
placed
her
on
their
bed
and
stayed
with
her
the
entire
night
until
he
took
his
own
life
early
Monday
evening.
Jodhan
told
this
newspaper
that
her
daughter
and
Rampertab
visited
her
home
on
Christmas
day.
She
said
they
even
visited
with
a
neighbour
and
appeared
to
be
in
high
spirits.
The
neighbour
commented
that
she
had
cut
Kishunchand's
hair
and
the
young
woman
modelled
the
new
hairstyle
for
them
before
she
and
Rampertab
departed.
Jodhan
said
her
son-in-law
had
promised
to
videotape
a
wedding
that
was
being
held
at
her
sister's
home
at
Bee
Hive,
ECD.
She
said
that
as
the
day
progressed
and
she
saw
no
sign
of
them
she
dialled
one
of
their
three
mobile
phones.
She
said
Rampertab
answered
and
informed
her
that
her
daughter
was
at
a
neighbour's.
He
told
her
that
her
daughter
did
not
have
any
of
the
phones
with
her
and
promised
that
they
would
have
taken
a
taxi
and
gotten
to
the
wedding
shortly.
It
grew
later
and
there
was
still
no
sign
of
either
of
them,
Jodhan
said,
and
she
dialled
the
numbers
again,
but
no
one
answered.
This
was
around
6.30
pm
on
Monday.
The
woman
said
that
when
she
left
the
wedding
she
decided
to
go
straight
to
her
daughter's
home.
When
she
arrived,
Jodhan
said,
she
called
out
to
them
but
no
one
answered.
She
rang
the
mobile
phones
again,
but
to
no
avail.
A
check
was
then
made
at
the
neighbour
that
her
daughter
had
supposedly
visited
earlier
that
day.
Jodhan
was
told
that
the
neighbour
had
not
seen
Kishunchand
for
the
entire
day.
Jodhan
said
she
then
became
very
worried
and
fearful
and
was
advised
to
contact
the
police
before
attempting
to
open
the
couple's
house.
She
rang
the
Vigilance
Police
Station
but
was
told
she
needed
to
go
to
the
station
and
make
a
report
and
a
police
officer
would
accompany
her
back.
This
was
done
and
when
with
the
assistance
of
a
neighbour
the
house
was
opened,
the
gruesome
discovery
was
made.
According
to
the
neighbour
who
assisted
Jodhan
and
the
officer
in
gaining
entry
to
the
house,
the
young
woman
was
found
lying
on
her
back
on
the
bed
with
a
sheet
pulled
up
to
her
neck.
The
neighbour
said
Rampertab
was
kneeling
next
to
Kishunchand
on
the
bed
and
a
mosquito
net
was
tucked
around
the
bed.
There
was
a
hole
in
the
net
through
which
the
rope
around
his
neck
was
tied
to
the
ceiling.
They
were
both
dead.
"She
get
bad
beat
up
and
like
he
deh
watching
over
she
all
this
time
because
if
you
see
she
how
she
deh
lie
down
good,
good,"
the
neighbour
said.
He
said
the
last
time
he
saw
the
woman
was
on
Christmas
Day
when
she
passed
his
home.
"I
been
playing
music
and
she
pass
and
mek
like
this
[shake
of
the
waist]
and
tell
me
a
playing
nice
music..."
The
girl's
mother
said
the
couple
had
been
living
at
Good
Hope
for
about
five
years.
She
said
Rampertab
met
her
daughter
while
she
was
still
at
school.
Although
he
hails
from
Skeldon,
Berbice,
he
was
living
in
Georgetown
when
he
met
the
young
woman.
The
man,
according
to
his
mother-in-law,
did
not
work;
he
depended
on
his
relatives
overseas
for
support.
She
said
although
her
daughter
had
told
her
that
the
man
would
"nag"
her
from
time
to
time
and
that
he
was
jealous
she
never
indicated
to
her
that
things
were
that
difficult
and
she
was
shocked
over
the
incident.
The
neighbour
said
he
had
never
heard
the
couple
quarrelling
and
if
they
did
it
was
in
the
house
as
they
were
very
quiet.
He
said
they
purchased
the
house
from
another
family
who
had
migrated.
However,
the
mother
said
another
neighbour
had
told
her
that
they
heard
noise
on
Christmas
night
which
led
her
to
believe
that
the
woman
might
have
been
killed
since
then.
Police
yesterday
said
they
are
investigating.
